put in bay chicken patio

Founded in 1952, Chicken Patio, has long served the best BBQ chicken on South Bass Island. They say the secret is in the sauce and Chicken Patio is certainly no exception. Their famous wine basted sauce is known far and wide for its rich, deep flavor.

Chicken Patio Details

Chicken Patio is located on the patio of the historic Park Hotel where it first opened in 1952. It is now just a little bit bigger. The original grillmasters manned a small charcoal grill making the same delectable local wine basted sauce and chicken as it does today. The whole operation has grown to include a 21 foot grill making sure there is always plenty to go around.

The chicken is definitely the star here. Each chicken includes sweet grilled corn on the cob, potato salad, and a dinner roll. For smaller appetites, pick the ½ chicken. Extra sauce is free and it is so good, you’ll definitely want it. Good thing wet naps are free too!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Chicken Patio is consistently named the Best BBQ on Put-in-bay. Visitors and locals alike look forward to smelling that smokey, mouthwatering aroma drifting down Delaware Avenue every summer from the Round House patio.

The Park Hotel and the Round House Bar

The Park Hotel and Round House Bar are Put-in-Bay institutions. This beautiful Victorian building is one of the oldest on the island. It is known as the first places to serve both ice cream and cottage cheese in the 1860’s. Thanks to the ingenuity of folks like Valentine Doller, ice would be harvested from Lake Erie in the winter and housed in the Ice House until the summer months. The Ice House is now the Put-in-Bay Winery. This was such a treat that banners would stretch across the street to DeRivera Park proclaiming ice cream was now available!

The Park House also has its place in the history books. Historians credit it as the first hotel in the local area that offered “Beds having spring mattresses,” as opposed to those less comfortable straw mattresses.

The Round House Bar is definitely one of the liveliest spots in town. Folks love gathering here to drink and spend time with friends. There’s always great live music playing in the summer. Grab a filling meal at Chicken Patio then head over and spend the night at the Round House! A classic Put-in-Bay pairing for sure!
