Fire Department Clambake

Sept 14th

Most foods that you love are available almost all the time while on the island. If you want a pizza or a burger, there’s no shortage of places to call. But for certain things, you have to have them when they’re available. There’s not a pig roast everywhere everyday for example. Same with a clambake. So if you’re lucky enough to be at Put-in-Bay Ohio on September, make your way over to the fire station on Concord ave. between 1 PM and 7 PM and enjoy one of the great rare culinary pleasures, a clambake! This is, in fact, over 40 years in a row that the Put-in-Bay Fire Department Clambake has taken place, and all proceeds go towards updating the fire department’s equipment, so you’ll be eating clams for a cause!

Details for the Volunteer Fire Department Clambake

The clambake plates that you’ll scoop up from the fire station will make for the perfect picnic meal. Many people carry it away to one of the many beautiful spots on the island for a picnic. There are tables and bathrooms at DeRivera Park, just a short walk away. Oak Point State Park is another spot available nearby. Of course you could always take it back to your vacation rental home or condo as well!

Plan Your Lodging Today

If you are interested in coming up to South Bass Island the weekend of the clambake, it would be silly not to stop in a place for lunch or dinner on Saturday. It’ll be an amazing meal and the proceeds go to a great community cause! Of course no one is coming to the island just for the clambake. Fortunately there are plenty of Put-in-Bay attractions to fill an entire weekend and then some. You can kayak around the lake or rent jet skis. You can check out not one, but two, amazing caves, one with an underground lake and one with the world’s largest geode! I’ll bet you didn’t expect that.

The Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is one of the tallest monuments in America, and that’s at Put-in-Bay too! Did you know that is taller than The Statue of Liberty? All that’s left to do is to check out our lodging resource page and find the perfect spot for you! It’s a great way to see all of the island since there are so many things to do in Put-in-Bay. You could spend a whole year here and not get bored! So book today because the sooner you book the sooner you can get on a Put-in-Bay ferry!
